 | | jamesmaskell: The venue for the Candidates Tournament is to be announced on the 28th Feb. After all the debate over whether Bulgaria or Azerbaijan would be most appropriate given Aronian's misgivings, looking at the ECU bulletin the UK is the third option. Not a bad idea at all. |

 | | HeMateMe: <Wayne P> Mike Lupica, "shooting from the Lip". He's ok, and he's ghost written some sports biographies with the athletes. I wouldn't put him up there with the best sports writers, like Frank Deford, Rick Reilly or David Halberstam, but he has had a readership in the New York Daily News for decades. If you get a chance, take a look at Roger Ebert's auto B, <life Lived>, or something like that. He is the guy who became famous as a movie critic, had a long running film review show with Gene Siskel, <At the Movies>. Ebert was quite the prodigy. He was a sports reporter for his Urbana Illinois newspaper while still in high school, and he wrote for the paper while attending a nearby college. He won a pulitzer prize, writing for the newspaper. Ebert has had some horrible luck, getting throat cancer. He can no longer talk or eat solid food, must use a tube. |

| Feb-08-12 | | Crispy Seagull: Hi everyone,
Anyone care to back up a few days and take another look at the recent Giri v Aronian match which Aronian won so brilliantly? I posted a question there about the knight move, and I'm really hoping someone wiser than I can shed a little light on WHY in god's name Giri would accept that knight... Or just post here, either way. Thanks! |

 | | hms123: <Crispy Seagull> I posted a response on the game page. I guess Giri's alternative was not much better than taking the knight. |

 | | Phony Benoni: The editor of the chess column in the Baltimore American for <September 26, 1900>, vouched for the accuracy of the following story, which allegedly took place at a club in Canada: click for larger viewWhite played <1.c4>, and Black replied with <1...Rxc3>. White protested, but Black maintained the rook had simply captured the pawn <en passant> as it passed the c3 square. After all, why should this privilege be restricted to pawns? White was befuddled for a moment, but then inspiration struck and he played <2.bxc4>, capturing the rook <en passant>. Black could not protest this logic, but happily replied <2...Bxb6>, only to resign after <3.Rxd6+> forking the king and bishop. Which simply shows that they weren't really up on the rules in Canada in 1900. Obviously, instead of resigning Black should simply have captured the rook <en passant> on d4. |

 | | HeMateMe: "Hogan, I SEE NOTHING!"
That movie, <Auto Focus>, about the life and murder of Bob Crane, was very good. I think Greg Kinear played Crane, spot on. |
 |
| Feb-09-12 | | drukenknight: I too, liked that movie, mainly because of Kinear's acting, but I thought the movie focused too much on the tawdry aspects of Crane's life. Bob Crane was more than some sleazy guy; he was a morning DJ in LA and they gave him his own TV show! That was quite something for the 60s or any era. I was wondering did Kinear part his hair the opposite of Crane so as to suggest that the character was looking at himself in the mirror and not as real life would see him? . |

In movies you can create visual effects and also humor, something you Nazi's lack. P.S. Also at 2:03 you can see Ringo playing bongo's. Surprise! |

Sorry harry but The Small Faces & The Clash don't belong on the list. Plus Led Zeppelin should be number 3. Also what about Jimi Hendrix, Cream & Creedence Clearwater Revival? |
