 | | harrylime: <Call Me TC: The English are racist pig-dogs.> lol. Sure. Ok.
Funny tho it's the rest of Europe we have to worry about regarding 'racism' on our travels. English black footballers encounter racist abuse in virtually EVERY European country they play in. It's Europe which is a racist backwater ,Not the UK. |

 | | HeMateMe: We've lost 3 of the 4 Gibbs brothers? I think one of the died about ten years ago. Before that, the youngest brother, Andy (the only one to go solo) died of a drug overdose. |

| May-21-12 | | Helios727: Question. In chess literature people talk about the power of the "minority attack" (by pawns) on the queen side of the board. However, chess literature also talks about the power of the "queen side pawn majority." How does one determine when the "queen side pawn majority" is an advantage, versus the disadvantage it can impose from the opponent's potential "minority attack"? |

| May-21-12 | | Wayne Proudlove: I thought of entering the movie "Barfly" into the search engine on Roger Ebert's website.
Here are some excerpts from his review:
"The bartender hates him, probably for the same reason all bartenders in gutter saloons hate their customers: It's bad enough that they have to serve these losers, without taking a lot of lip from them, too." "In the disordered world of the drinker, one thing rarely leads to another through any visible pattern. Each day is a window that opens briefly after the hangover and before the blackout, and you can never tell what you'll see through that window." "The dialogue scenes between Rourke and Dunaway in this movie are never less than a pleasure, but their exchanges on that first night are poetry." "...a truly original American movie, a film like no other, a period of time spent in the company of the kinds of characters Saroyan and O'Neill would have understood, the kinds of people we try not to see, and yet might enjoy more than some of our more visible friends." |

(he could open the center or attack the kingside)
The majority is typically less of an advantage when he does play the minority attack. |

Oh yeah, "Barfly" is amazing. I remember seeing it the first time, how the camera moved in on a boom on the bar, told the story, then left on the same boom shot. No muss no fuss, slice of life. |

| May-21-12 | | Wayne Proudlove: I was watching "Norma Rae" on TMN, the one Sally Field won the Academy Award and said her "You really like me" line.
In the movie the union guy is handing out pamphlets at the factory and Norma Rae says, "The words are too big, If I can't get them the others sure won't".
Sally Field knows that Norma Rae isn't necessarily smarter than the rest but she's someone who would think she's smarter than them and that's how she gets her leadership role. And then you just rest the performance on that. |
