 | | Shams: Anybody catch today's Euro 2012 quarterfinal? I can't decide if there's a larger disparity between the German and Greek economies or their football sides. |

 | | PinnedPiece: <HeMateMe: Many of them died, and didn't make it to China.> A gentle correction from the most ignorant kibitzer here: Only two died by drowning. Most made it out.

 | | crawfb5: <Petrosianic: There's probably an easy way to look this up, but I'm not finding it. Q: What is the earliest drawn game in the database? You can search by players and you can search by exact years, but you don't seem able to search by a range of years.> It's easier than you think. Enter a year and to the left select <no later than>. If you pick <no later than 1800> and then search, you get 205 games across three pages. Then go down to <Refine search> and select <draws>. That gives you the following 10 games: http://www.chessgames.com/perl/ches... T Bowdler vs Philidor, 1783 is the earliest draw in CG's database. |
 |
Jun-22-12
 | | OhioChessFan: You don't have to do it in 2 steps. I did the same thing "no later than", used "1850", and "Result is" chose "draw". |

<Best crowd chant at #Euro2012? Greek fans to German fans: “We’ll never pay you back."> |
 |
Jun-22-12
 | | crawfb5: <OCF> True enough. I originally did it in my database, but wanted to repeat it in case I had an early draw CG didn't. |

 | | PinnedPiece: <Shams: Per my comment below, just read this on twitter: <Best crowd chant at #Euro2012? Greek fans to German fans: “We’ll never pay you back.">> Yep, Euro football generates some furious attitudes and combative responses among the fans. That one seems even more vicious than this clash: http://www.rt.com/news/poland-footb... Or move a little south and you get this--height of team support, I guess: http://www.aljazeera.com/news/middl... . |
 |
| Jun-22-12 | | Petrosianic: <It's easier than you think. Enter a year and to the left select no later than> I eventually found that, I'd just never used it before. And sure enough, Bowdler-Philidor is the oldest draw in the database. But of course, the database isn't complete. You'd think there'd be some kind of one-stop shopping source where you could download all known games played before 1900. There couldn't be that many. |
 |
Jun-22-12
 | | Shams: To be complete, you should really have: first stalemate, first draw by agreement, and first draw by repetition. More difficult: first pre-arranged draw. |

 | | OhioChessFan: I was serious about Usain Bolt being the greatest athlete in the world. I understand such is in the realm of opinion, and commend Phelps for winning all he did, but he won a lot of close races. Bolt is so far ahead of his rivals he's in a different league. |
 |
Jun-23-12
 | | PinnedPiece: Well <OCF> you are not the only one who mentions those two athletes as the pinnacle of performance... http://www.forbes.com/sites/davidla... Beating the 100-m dash record is going to be almost impossible after U. Bolt's reign, I reckon. . |

 | | PhilFeeley: I've always thought of this as an American site, but I guess I'm wrong. How else to explain the lack of a National Open page. Particularly interesting is the last round loss by Robson against an untitled 2200 player in a mere 28 moves! W: William Stewart (2266) - B: Ray Robson (2692)
Las Vegas International, June 15-17, 2012, Round 6
1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 d6 3.d4 cxd4 4.Nxd4 Nf6 5.Nc3 e6 6.g3 Nc6 7.Bg2 Bd7 8.O-O Be7 9.Re1 Qc7 10.Ncb5 Qb8 11.c4 O-O 12.h3 Na5 13.Na3 a6 14.Qe2 Qc7 15.Bd2 Rac8 16.Rac1 Rfe8 17.b4 Nc6 18.Nb3 Qb8 19.f4 g4 20.Red8 e5 21.Ne8 c5 22.dxc5 bxc5 23.b6 Be3 24.a5 Rb1 25.g5 Nc4 26.gxf4 Bf2 27.bxc5 Nxc5
28.Qc7 1-0
I've always been suspicious of the Nc6,Nf6, Be7,Bd7 setup in the Sicilian. |

I'm so so glad Messi Is 10 times the man and footballer he'l ever be, and I'm not just saying that because he's a tiny little bit better looking than me ;) I hate him cos he got Rooney sent off In 08, then turned and winked at the bench!!! They were clubmates at the time too! I'll never forget the front newspaper headlines the next day either.. YOU WINKER! lol |

 | | HeMateMe: Anyone see <Rock of Ages>? Tom Cruise plays an aging rock star. Aging mega babe catharine Z-jones is a moral crusader, Alec Baldwin is a sleazy (always) nightclub owner. I hear good and bad reviews, the box office was mediocre. Mabye an alternate story would work?
Aging 70s glam rock "chick singer" Meryl Streepe comes out of her 8th rehab, and is trying to make a comeback. "I don't care if I have 6 illegitimate kids--they're MY kids, dammit!" She is consistently undermined by one of her kids, <Lindsay Lohan>, a straight 'A' college student, who is deeply ashamed of her mother's over the top drug use and open sexuality. Her manager, <Sylvester Stallone>, feels Meryle has one more comeback in her, and arranges a tour of small venues. "Loook--Marrol has the Eye of 'da Tiger, you okey wit dat? Why can't noones understand me when I tawk?" Ex Cal Governor <Jerry Brown> runs a Mexican themed cafe where you can get a cheap Margarita, electric 'shrooms and the right kind of political advice. He and Merryl commisserate. <Paul McCartney> in a wonderful return to films, as a corrupt promoter who tries to steal the gate money, at Streepe's new performances. "I'm just providin for 'me retiremnt, Luv". <Russel Crowe> plays Meryl's "minder" an ex-Catholic priest, digraced for drug use. He is now straight, and has to keep Meryle from using roofies and animal tranquilizers. He was too late to save Heath Ledger; this is his second assignment. Insult comic <Lisa Lampinelli> is the neighborhood drug dealer, who WON'T take no for an answer. "You people are NUTTIN without me!" Lastly, <Eddie Van Halen> does double duty as the guitar tech for Meryl's road band. He also provides secuity arrangements for the entire tour and arranges mandatory drug testing for the whole crew, as per the insurance rider. "I lost my toungue to bad behavior. We've lost enough tongues!" |
