| Sep-26-12 | | Zugzwang247: I'm sure there is a better place to ask this; perhaps y'all can point me to it: what do Colle-Zukertort players prefer to do after 1. d4 d5 2. Nf3 Bf5 3. e3 e6 *? I've ordered a book on the subject, but until it arrives, my only thought was to check the games played by C-Z players. Zukertort seems to prefer Be2. c4 looks good, but doesn't strike me as very thematic. Of course, the Bd3 that a C-Z player would normally desire is possible, but seems like trading a somewhat stronger bishop for a weaker one. Bb5+ seems to waste a tempo. Anything else seems like a waiting move or an abandonment of the C-Z book. Many Thanks,

 |
| Sep-26-12 | | Zugzwang247: Oh, of course, 4. Nbd2 is possible and even thematic, but doesn't resolve the issue and blocks the Queen capture should I play Bd3. Nevertheless, it's not really a waiting move and I should have included it. |

Zukertort seems to prefer Be2. c4 looks good, but doesn't strike me as very thematic.> Id probably go for c4.
…with possibilities of Qb3 or cxd for a minority attack on the queenside. If you play “non Bd3 lines” keep an eye out for Nh4 to snag the bishop. <Of course, the Bd3 that a C-Z player would normally desire is possible, but seems like trading a somewhat stronger bishop for a weaker one.> Don’t forget that type of thing is done all the time in the caro-kann. |

We invented fire, the wheel, sliced bread, mastodon stew. We are also a generous people. We allow other people to take credit for things we invented. It's the American way. |
