Oct-24-12  Wayne Proudlove: harrylime,
Elvis Costello's "Oliver's Army" is about Oliver Cromwell's New Model Army and how they "always get a working class boy to do the killing."
Oct-24-12  Travis Bickle: < <Wayne Proudlove: harrylime, Elvis Costello's "Oliver's Army" is about Oliver Cromwell's New Model Army and how they "always get a working class boy to do the killing."> Thanks Wayne for the info on that song. That tune came off of Elvis Costello's biggest record 'Armed Forces' a favorite of mine. Costello is a real quick witted wordsmith that reminds me of John Lennon in a way. Costello even wrote songs together with McCartney in the late 80's.
Oct-24-12  Deus Ex Alekhina: I wonder if the public schools still show "hygiene" films to the 10-year-olds in elementary school. (OK, we get it - target the body cavities when taking a shower). Some of the guys were geeked up about trying to sneak into the girls' hygiene class. And then, later, as high school freshmen, we went to an anti-smoking assembly where they showed us slides of cancer patients and film of an operation to remove a cancerous lung. Scare tactics - it usually worked - for about 2 or 3 weeks, then the scared ex-smokers went right back to their Pall Malls, Viceroys, etc.
Oct-24-12  Wayne Proudlove: Costelli is married to Diana Krall, the attractive Canadian jazz singer. They make a cool couple.
Oct-24-12  Travis Bickle: <Wayne Proudlove> Yes I knew that Costello was married to her. Here is Diana Krall playing Piano on Paul McCartney's album of standards he made this past year along with Joe Walsh on guitar.

Oct-25-12  Wayne Proudlove: Q: What does baseball's "Dead-ball Era" refer to?
A: 1900-1920 when they used one ball during the game and it got scuffed and spitballs were legal and it was harder to get runs.
Oct-25-12  Wayne Proudlove: "What happened before 1900?" you ask.
A: The batter had the advantage that foul balls weren't counted as strikes.
