  HeMateMe: Hasbro will soon replace one of the eight Monopoly pieces with a new figurine. Who will get the ax?

<http://games.yahoo.com/blogs/plugge...>

When I was a kid, my brother always got the race car, my sister took the top hat, and I got the ocean liner.

Amazing! No one can remain down or depressed after they watch this video. Roller skates and accordions and two bavarian girls.

  HeMateMe: On New Years Eve I saw a girl playing violin while rolling a hula hoop. Amazing! She was on the 59th street station platform, D line. I hope she got some tips. Apparently she's not the only street performer who does this:

  HeMateMe: Houdini 3 gets a write up at chessbase:

<http://chessbase.com/newsdetail.asp...>

They say its rating is 3335, and it would score 1-0 against Carlsen in 99/100 games! I find that hard to believe, but that is the claim of the Houdini team.

Jan-10-13  Troller: <Travis Bickle: Wayne, films of the early 70's had a certain style to them, films like 'They Shoot Horses Don't They?, Deliverance, Jeremiah Johnson, Scarecrow, McCabe & Mrs Miller & Deliverance. I could on & on but some of the best American cinema was made then IMO.>

The 1970's were one of Holloywood's golden eras (1940es weren't too shabby either). I think some people attribute it to the disillusionment the Vietnam war and Watergate caused in the American public.

The Godfather movies, Taxi Driver (duh), 3 Days for the Condor, Deer Hunter, Apocalypse Now, Nashville, Badlands etc etc.

Jan-10-13  Memethecat: I'm after a bit of help/advice, I've purchased my first over priced touchscren android phone, I like it but it's very tricky to use on this site, especially opening explorer but also game selections and forward and back moves on the games themselves, everythings so small and close together.

So my question is does anybody know of any apps or browsers that would make it easier to use the site.

My OS is version 4.0 ICS, soon to be updated to jelly bean, if that's any help. Thanks

Jan-10-13  Wayne Proudlove: Travis and Troller,
I agree but Ashby's humour was unique, a sort of poor man's Altman with an understated style; you wouldn't think he was doing much different unless you were paying close attention. Films like Harold & Maude and Shampoo. He died too soon, a victim of Hollywood.
Jan-10-13  STF92: Hi: Could somebody tell me why, in the game of the day (home page), there is no way to see how the game continued? Supposedly, clicking the board leads to the game, but now leads to the comments. Thanks.
Jan-10-13  Wayne Proudlove: Comebacks that work in any argument:
My friend had a good one: "You say that like it's a good/bad thing." My own reliable buddy is "True, but that's not the whole story."

Hey Duh, Taxi Driver was made in 1976, I was talking about the early 70's!

  OhioChessFan: They Shoot Horses Don't They? was made in 69, but who's counting?

  OhioChessFan: <STF> click on the board on the home page, and you'll be at the game page. Then you can either click on a move in the game score to the right of the board, on any particular move to take the position to that point, eg 1. d4 or 15. Rac1, or you can click on the right pointing arrow at the bottom of the board to move ahead one ply.

  WannaBe: <Memethecat>

1. CG.com currently only have Live Games as a mobile-friendly page. All other pages are designed as regular 'desktop' version.

2. Get a bigger 'screened' mobile device.

3. Shrink your finger. Just the one (index finger?) you use for the touch screen.

4. Quit Chess.

  Deus Ex Alekhina: Some of the films of the late 1960's and early 70's saw the rise of the anti-hero. Hollywood, in a reaction against what it felt was a corrupt political system, picked attractive young actors to portray and glamourize well known criminals. Butch Cassidey and the Sundance Kid and Bonnie and Clyde come to mind. Cool Hand Luke was fiction, but the criminals on the chain-gang were the "good guys" and the prison admin were the "bad guys".
Jan-10-13  Wayne Proudlove: If a guy offers you a rook exchange at his end of the board and you say, "Meh, I'll see what happens" and swoop down and grab it, is that a good play? Something you might see at grandmaster level?
Jan-11-13  rebjorn: The topic of performance enhancing drugs in chess came up at the Magnus Carlsen forum. I wonder if any competitive chess players would care to comment on this- would beta blockers provide a benefit in tournaments? Are they or others being used by tournament players?

  HeMateMe: Is there any evidence that drugs exist that can make a person play chess better?
Jan-11-13  STF92: Thank you talisman. I'll try the update.
Jan-11-13  Memethecat: Thanks WannaBe, I've already considered severing the index finger of a new born and after nipping of the end of my own get it sewn on, now I just need a Dr coat and the right blood match and I'm good to go!
