Kibitzer's Corner
Sep-28-05  paladin at large: More fun with Savielly - A very interesting game with an unsual ending and a mate with the minor pieces.

keypusher: <mate with the minor pieces> Much easier when your opponent still has a pawn!
Sep-29-05  paladin at large: Yes. I particularly like the position after 45. Kg6 - Black's king cannot come to the assistance of any of his pawns and cannot chase the minor pieces away.
Jun-06-06  PaulKeres: I like the position after 51. Kxe4, where we're down to the material we end the game with, B+N vs P. You're right <keypusher>, it can be easier with the pawn on the board than without! :)
Jun-06-06  EmperorAtahualpa: How childish of Black to play on.
Jun-06-06  Petrocephalon: I don't think one can render such judgements without knowing the circumstances of the game.

I can never remember when the second time control is, but if Black had an advantage on the clock he might well test his opponent.

Or what if they were both in a time scramble? In such situations both players tend to get caught up in the momentum of the game.

Jun-06-06  EmperorAtahualpa: True.

keypusher: Anyway, Tartakower was in no position to complain about oppoonents dragging games out.

Tartakower vs Lasker, 1924

Jun-06-06  PaulKeres: Now a comment right at the other end of the game, the first 3 half moves!!

Just noticed it was a rather unusual opening, 1. e3, Van't Kruijs (A00), which could be said to transpose into A03 Bird's Opening on account of 2. f4 (and the ...d7-d5 played by black).

Anyone out there play the Van't Kruijs at times, be interested to know what kind of mainline openings you transpose into?
