Kibitzer's Corner
Sep-14-04  InspiredByMorphy: I cant believe Harrwitz played such an excellent game, and had the win practically sealed, but threw it away with one move. 26. ...Qe8? 26. ...Qc7 27.Rc1 Rf8 looks like it should save black.
Aug-25-09  kooley782: I agree, InspiredByMorphy. Black simply let White in with his 26th move and left his king open. Just goes to show the importance of king safety! And sure enough Anderssen immediately took advantage of it.
Jan-26-11  OJC: An odd pattern: In this 7th match game and also the 6th (Harrwitz vs Anderssen, 1848) Harrwitz ultimately loses to tactics enabled by him trapping his own rook in the corner with his king.
