Kibitzer's Corner
Jun-23-05  Knight13: I think E Loewe got the idea of Philidor which is "pawns are not to be blocked by pieces." So he played f4 and c4 so when he developes his Knights it won't be blocked.

Loewe might have opened with 1. f4 but that's not how most of people plays Bird's Opening. And pushing the pawn to e4 is like transposing to other kinds of openings. I don't like the way he plays Bird's Opening at all. It's incorrect way, in my opinion.

I like the move 36. Kxd6!!. It basicly wins the game. And also moves like 40. Rxc5! is quite unexpected.

Good endgame play.

Jan-26-07  Themofro: I agree, he definately mishandles the opening, so that it can hardly be called a Bird's. Regardless of the opening however the ending is without a doubt brilliant.
