"...On the inside front cover of the November 1951 Chess Review Chernev also offered his nomination for ‘the dullest game ever played’: the 100-move Noa v Winawer, London, 1883."

Sep-15-07  Cactus: Proving that in 1883, there was no such thing as a GM draw.

I'll agree for the first 50 or so moves, but when the action started happening, it was very exciting.

An Englishman: Good Evening: The first capture of the game came on move 3. The second come on move 74. Wow.

The game itself is much less dull than Mr. Winter suggests. 26...a4 was a terrible move that almost negates all of Black's chances, but Winawer finds his only hope for victory--compel Bxe4--and manouvers with great subtlety to lull Noa's alertness. Once he succeeds, Winawer doesn't squander his second chance and wins with an excellent attack.

Jan-25-09  GannonKnight: Wow ... What a crazy position. Second capture on move 74?
