Phony Benoni: An 82 move game might seem pretty long, yet this was less than half the length of the longest game in this round, the 168-mover H Wolf vs Duras, 1907.

The same round also saw an 80-mover and a 72-mover, making this one day the specators really got their money's worth.

Sep-23-15  Howard: Fine gave this ending in his BCE book, and Larry Evans used a certain position from it in one of his What's the Best Move columns back in 1975, but I don't recall what Evans' point was in featuring the position.

Remind me to look it up when I get home.

Dec-27-16  AlbertoDominguez: That's quite the memory, Howard.

The position is now in Dvoretsky's Tragicomedy in the Endgame as well.

Apr-20-17  Straclonoor: After 70th move white Lomonosov TB7 gives - white wins.
Jun-12-17  shallowred: 47... b4!

"Salwe fights like a Lion; his position is nevertheless untenable."

- Marco / Schlechter Tournament Book

This is why I study Salwe games.

Jun-13-17  Straclonoor: It was last tournament in Chigorin's career. He was poor health conditions so was easy to Salwe to avoid loss.
