Kibitzer's Corner
Feb-04-08   shintaro go: No kibitzing for this page? Topalov and Cheparinov discovered their "novelty" Nxf7 three years ago but Bosboom already unleashed this bomb in 2000

KingG: <shintaro go> The Nxf7 sacrifice has been played countless times in this variation, but in such a sharp opening slight differences in the position are very important. For example in Topalov vs Kramnik, 2008, Topalov didn't first play h4, inducing g4, which then allows white to open up the f-file with f3, as in this game. Not to mention that it also further weakens Black's King side. Black also looks better developped in that game compared to this one.

In short, Nxf7 is fairly 'obvious' in this game, at least as a candidate move, whereas in the position Kramnik had he didn't even bother analysing it at all, despite the fact that he is one of the worlds greatest experts in this line.
