7.Lf1-b5 ..
Hier fühle ich mich zu einer Erklärung veranlaßt, warum ich nicht den naheliegenderen Zug 7.Sxe5 gespielt habe, den auch das Turnierbuch für besser hält. Meister Teichmann hat mir einen Tag vor der Partie unter dem Siegel der strengsten Verschwiegenheit die Neuerung 7.Sxe5 Dh4+ 8.g3 Lf2+! 9.Kxf2 Df6+ nebst 10... Dxe5 anvertraut, die dem Schwarzen ein schönes Angriffsspiel gibt. Da Meister Wolf à tempo 6... Sc6! gezogen hatte, vermutete ich ihn mit Recht als Mitwisser des Geheimnisses und ... spielte anders, kam aber damit erst recht vom Regen in die Traufe.

8.d2-d4 ..
Jetzt merkte ich erst, daß ich schlecht stehe und verlegte mich deshalb auf taktische Witze, die aber mein schlauer Gegner durchschaute.

17... Dd5xc6?
Bis dahin hat Schwarz die Partie mustergültig behandelt. Jetzt aber spielt er zu ängstlich auf Damentausch, statt den Gegner im Angriff zu zerschmettern. Nach 17... bxc! nebst Besetzung der e-Linie durch den Turm (18.Lxg7 Rhg8 wäre ganz ruinös) hätte sich Weiß, abgesehen von seinem materiellen Nachteil, nicht lange halten können.

In der Partie erreichte Weiß nach 17... Dxc6 18.Dxc6 bxc6 19.Lxg7 Ld4 20.Lxd4 Txd4 ein Remisspiel, hasardierte aber so lange, bis er es zu guter letzt noch verlor. Dies alles ist belanglos, denn entschieden war die Partie eigentlich schon nach dem 7.Zuge. Dieselbe ist wohl geeignet, den guten Glauben an dem Königsgambit zu erschüttern, doch ohne es entgültig zu verdammen. Es müßte noch die Variante 1.e4 e5 2.f4 Lc5 3.Sf3 d6 4.c3 Lg4 5.fxe dxe 6.Da4+ Sc6 7.Sxe5 Dh4+ usw. in ernsten Kampf erprobt werden.
