TheFocus: <AlanPardew> Sure, LOL! Maybe <Joshka> can post them.
Mar-13-12  Jim Bartle: Hasn't anybody noticed my clairvoyance? I thanked Focus for Fischer's and Byrne's notes before he'd even posted them.
Mar-13-12  Nemesistic: I noticed Jim because I KNEW!!!! what you were about to post because im a Life clairvoyant..lol

Who could they be credited to?

I was just walking this room, and I saw that you thanked me. I wondered "How does he know I have those notes?" So, I had to post them or we would both have looked silly.

TheFocus: <Jim Bartle> I think that next you should thank me for cleaning all that dirty loot out of your bank account.

Then, send me your access codes and I will do it.

Then I will come back and say, "You are welcome. I knew that all that filthy lucre would lead you down the path of ruin, so I took your money. I think I will go to Aruba, wherever that is. I hope they have beer."

Mar-13-12  Jim Bartle: Sorry, Focus, you're too late to try that clean-out-the-bank-account trick.

brankat: Thanks for the "parallel" annotations of this very fine game <TheFocus>.
Mar-14-12  DWINS: <TheFocus>, Thank you so much for posting the dual analysis. I love comparing different annotations of games, but especially when it is from the players themselves.
Mar-14-12  King Death: <M61MG>? I can't wait!
Mar-14-12  qqdos: <The Focus> - ditto - thanx. The comments demonstrate Robert Byrne's admirable generosity of spirit!

Mar-14-12  LIFE Master AJ: Let me re-phrase my earlier question.

IF anyone knows Mr. Byrne's mailing address or e-mail address, please send them to me in an e-mail.

... I have a number of questions that I want to ask him. (I want to see if he remembers which GM's were there, if any made any comments about the game, what was his exact manner of resignation, etc.) I have no qualms about writing him. In the past, GM's like Soltis, Nunn, Evans, (etc.) have always been very gracious to respond to such inquiries, especially when they concerned their notes or the history of important chess games.

TheFocus: If <AJ> didn't have me on Ignore, he could see Byrne's notes with all his questions answered.

Of course, I am not giving <AJ> my e-mail address.

Mar-14-12  AlanPardew: Joshka, please post the notes from <M61MG>!
Mar-14-12  Jim Bartle: Let's see if I have this right, Alan. You want to see the notes to this game from M61MG. Now on Trice's page and elsewhere I've seen a price of around $400 per book retail. That would mean about $6.50 per game. So Joshka should give away somebody's $6.50?

Then again, if I remember correctly, the book had no identified copyright holder, did not say who the publisher was, so maybe the contents are public domain.

<Fischer> <There is hardly any other defense to the threat of ...Ne4: (a) 15. Nd4 Ne4 16. Nxe4 dxe4 17. Bb2 Rc8 with a powerful bind; (b) 15. Nf4 Ne4 16. Nxe4 dxe4 (not 16...Bxa1? 17. Nd6) 17. Rab1 Rc8 18. Nxd3 Bc3! 19. Qe2 Bxd3 20. Qg4 f5 21. Qh3 Bxb1! 22. Rxd8 Rexd8 23. Bf1 Rd1 24. Kg2 Bd3! 25. Bxd3 exd3 wins; (c) 15. f3 Bh6 16. f4 (if 16. Nf4? d4!) Bg7! resumes the threat of ...Ne4, only White has weakened himself in the interim.>>

I wonder if a variation of line (b) works better:

(b2) 15. Nf4 Ne4 16. Nxe4 dxe4 (not 16...Bxa1? 17. Nd6) 17. Rab1 Rc8 <18.Bb4> instead of 18.Nxd3, which prevents 18...Bc3.

It looks like black is still better, but it's not clear that he's winning.

Mar-22-12  LIFE Master AJ: As for the posts of a certain user, any contribution which documents both a book AND a magazine (if accurate) has got to be welcomed by all. (Thanks.)

However, it does not answer ALL of my questions, such as:

#1.) Does Robert Byrne remember just who was there? (Who was watching the game and perhaps any disinterested bystanders?)

#2.) Of the GM's present, did any say that they thought Fischer was winning, or did everyone side with the commentators?

#3.) This game won the first brilliancy prize ... were there any others that were (perhaps) almost as good?

#4.) Some have described Byrne's play here as insipid. [Personally, I think it was only Bobby's genius that stopped Byrne cold.] Could he show us a few games - perhaps ones not in this (or any) database, in which he won, which might show this system in a better light?

#5.) Were there any other aspects of this game - that were not written in any of the accounts - that he can recall?

There were other questions. I actually had a pad on my desk, with 7-10 questions that were jotted down. However, my daughters often use my desk to write me notes and other things, so it seems to have gotten misplaced.

Mar-22-12  JoergWalter: <Mar-13-12 LIFE Master AJ: Just a quick thought. I have discussed this game (over the years) with a number of GM's that were actually there. (Many are dead now.)>

I'm lost.
Such a marvellous game "honoured" by such ingenious comments.

What <AJ>, you can't at least mention my name.

Thanks for those notes, <TheFocus>.

I also have GM Byrne's address. You might ask, "Please, please, <Focus>, could you write GM Byrne and ask him some questions and post his answers here?"

And I might, if you ask me directly and nicely.

  TheFocus: <(if accurate)>

Well, I copied them and gave my sources. Anyone could have checked for accuracy. Go look them up.

And, the majority of people here have NEVER even seen GM Byrne's notes.

Mar-22-12  JoergWalter: @<TheFocus>

at least, you progressed from "ignored" to "a certain user".

Thanks again for the notes of R. Byrne as I would never have seen them otherwise.
