  TheAlchemist: Paradis lost
Feb-27-13  newzild: The Poisoned Pawn variation of the Najdorf Sicilian is theoretically good for Black. I used to play it all the time as Black - and consistently lose. It was probably my least successful opening. There's just too much theory to memorise.
Feb-27-13  Jamboree: Not to point out the obvious or anything, but black made about ten "??"-level blunders in this game -- and played pretty weak for all the other moves too.

White, in comparison, only made about three blunders, and so won easily.

Feb-27-13  morfishine: <newzild> Well put; I don't see why Black would ever play this line for the simple reason: If White is offering the b-pawn, then one shouldn't take it...

Of that Forbidden Tree, whose mortal taste
Brought Death into the World, and all our woe,
Feb-27-13  pedro123: Obviously wanted to make a pun out of the name as the game is truly forgettably awful.
Feb-27-13  Abdel Irada: If nothing else, the pun is literally true.
Feb-27-13  Abdel Irada: Is Lavrousky coincidentally the name of a brand of vacuum cleaner? She certainly hoovered up loose pawns and pieces, tidying Paradis all the way to paradise.
Feb-27-13  moodini: I'm not an openings expert but I think than in "the real" poisoned pawn variation the white pawn is on a2 and there are some other differences too.

This is a "very poisoned pawn" variation. Black was probably dead as soon as the b2 pawn was consumed. It just took a while to sink in.

Feb-27-13  7he5haman: Instead of 30...Bd4, could Black have tried to sit tight with ...Kf8 (to counter Bd6), then ...g6 (to counter Be5), followed by ...Ke8-d7?

Looks pretty tough to crack to me. Maybe White could eventually try to route his king to h6, so probably ...h5 is required as soon as possible after ...g6.

What do you guys think?

Feb-27-13  Layson: <Not to point out the obvious or anything, but black made about ten "??"-level blunders in this game -- and played pretty weak for all the other moves too.>

None too surprising, as I believe both players peaked around 1400.

Feb-27-13  kevin86: It looked like paradis would lose the queen, but DID lose a bishop. She hung on provbably too long, but died at the end...
Feb-27-13  Expendable Asset: But Paradis regained afterwards.
