Kibitzer's Corner
Jul-07-04  chessfected: pretty finish. Black is more or less toast in the endgame with Queens off - especially because of the backward d-pawn and White's strong knight.
Jan-07-05  Flyboy216: ...especially since white is about to win the exchange, no?

plang: 16..exf was new; 16..Be7 had been played previously. 18..b4?! led to an inferior endgame for Black after 21 Qd5!; better was 18..d6 19 axb..axb 20 Rxa8..Qxa8 21 Qxb5..dxe 22 Qxc5..Qb8 with a small White edge. Anand was critical of Kashimdzhanov's rook maneuver 25..Re8? and 27..Re5?! recommending 25..Ne6 and 27..Nh5 instead. After 29 Rd3! setting up the tranfer of the knight to c4 White was in total control. 34..Ng7 would have been anwered by 35 Re7+..Kf6 36 Ra7.
