Sadly it turns out to be a losing move. Loman needed to find 33.a3!. Alekhine has nothing better than 33...xc3 34.c1 xd4 35.b2

http://www.chessvideos.tv/endgame-t... After 33.Bxe7 Alekhine played 33...Bd3!? allowing 34.Ba3! (Loman's missed opportunity to win). But the EGT prefers 33...Be4 threatening Bxg2+. I can find nothing better than 34.Kg1 leading to a draw after 34...Bd3 35.Qe1 Be4 36.Qf1 Bd3. Is there a win for White that i hae missed somewhere in this sequence? In this line, after 34.Kg2, 34...Bxg2 is not check which gives White time to play Qc1 remaining a piece ahead. White is a Bishop ahead but the EGT puts up a very stiff resistance and the win is by no means easy to find. |
