GrahamClayton: This simul was organised by Herman Helms. Here is some more information, taken from the chesslinks worldwide website (http://www.chesszoom.org)

Helms was justifiably proud of the exhibitions by Alekhine and Capablanca that he organized at the Seventh Regiment Armory in New York in 1931 and 1932. With a brass band on hand for each exhibition, the invited grandmaster on each occasion met two hundred opponents, on fifty boards. These spectacular affairs set records for chess event attendance.
