Kibitzer's Corner
Jan-10-05  russep: Can someone please tell me the finish.
Jan-10-05  iron maiden: <russep> After 20...Kg8, 21. Be8 and mate is inevitable. Alternatively, if 20...Ne7, then 21. Rd1 and Black has to jettison another piece to temporarily save his king.
Jan-10-05  notsodeepthought: Perhaps there is no mate after 20 ... Kg8 21 Be8 (due to 21 ...h6), but in any case black is a piece down, his position is in shambles, the h8 rook will probably have to go (e.g. 21 ... h6 22 B:f7+ Kh7 23 Bg6+ Kg8 24 Nf7), he's facing Alekhine... yep, he can safely resign.
Jan-10-05  iron maiden: <notsodeepthought> Then mate IS inevitable. ;-)
Jan-10-05  notsodeepthought: <iron maiden>: Fair enough, we only disagreed on the timing :)
Jan-10-05  drukenknight: was 19 ...Nb3 any better?
Jan-10-05  beatgiant: <drukenknight: was 19 ...Nb3 any better?> Maybe a little better. 19...Nb3 20. Rd1 keeps the extra piece (then 20...Nxa1? 21. Bc5+ followed by 22. Rd8+), but Black can try 20...Nxd4 21. Rxd4 Ke7 and he's still losing, but not as badly as in the game.
Jan-11-05  drukenknight: is it possible he saw 19...Nb3 after he had played ..Nd5 and then gave up in frustration? God only knows how many times that has happened to players, but never to me, oh no never.
Jan-11-05  delterp: I think it is extremely bold to play Alekhine's defense against Alekhine!
Apr-03-08  smarterthanbobby: yes I agree with delterp I don't think
Lopez Esnaola really sat down and tore
apart Alekhine's defence, I wonder if
we have as a chess world tore it apart
I will start reading some books on it.
Does anyone have input, like do they like using the line? dislike it, hate it? etc... any hi ranking players have thoughts? 2000 and over...
