Jul-17-14 | | poorpatzer: This is a killer pun, and a great game as well! |
|
Jul-17-14 | | Mr Bigz: Does anyone have more info on the Lion Defense? |
|
Jul-17-14 | | HaydenB: How was Ward, robbed? Anand won a pawn early then spent maybe 10 more minutes to finish the game, Mr. Ward never appeared to be in it, no offense. I have his excellent book on the Closed Sicilian, good chess author. |

Jul-17-14 | | pedro99: Good technique,as ever, demonstrated by Anand. |

 | | FSR: <Phony Benoni> It's worse than you think. There are actually <three> variables you have to synchronize: the quality of the game, the quality of the pun, and the fit between the pun and the game. So yesterday, for example, the game was excellent and the pun was OK ("Pawnless in Seattle"). Had the game been played in Seattle, everyone would have been happy. But it wasn't - the game had nothing to do with Seattle, so the pun was a flop. |

Jul-17-14 | | mathlover: Wt is a pun?
I used to eat bun |

To all those kind persons who have compared my books to C.S. Lewis'-- Thanks and thanks again: but you must be crazy. |

Jul-17-14 | | kevin86: I was just lion around. lol |

 | | eternaloptimist: This pun is very creative & it's based off of a book by 1 of my favorite authors...C. S. Lewis! I have read The Chronicles of Narnia series all the way through once & I highly recommend it! |
|
Jul-17-14 | | DanielBryant: Anand kicked Aslan in this one. |
|
Jul-17-14 | | Tigranny: One of the greatest puns ever. |
|
Jul-17-14 | | morfishine: <FSR> You make a good point about 3 variables to synchronize. However, IMHO, the quality of the pun and how it fits into the game are so closely related, that these can merge and become one and the same, which is what I think <PhonyBenoni> was referring to. In other words, the puns impact increases in value the more it relates to the game. [This works backwards too, for example, the Seattle-Tulip example flopped since it was the wrong city...nice try though] ***** |

Jul-17-14 | | Cheapo by the Dozen: Best tulip viewing I've ever done has been around Seattle, actually. But my wife said it was no match for the Netherlands. |

 | | Sally Simpson: Excellent pun and good game.
I would have fancied my chances of creating something from here. click for larger viewMost likely would have thrown in g4 and gone down with all guns firing blanks. I went through all that list of tulips. All 3,700 of them. None that I could see were named after a chess player. There is a 'William Pitt', 'Scarlett O'Hara' , 'St. Pancras', (that a railway station), 'Striped Empire State' (A building), 'Sylvia Philips' (who is that?), Yoko Ono even gets a tulip. Thought I might find a Paul Keres tulip - he has a chess club named after him, he has featured on stamps, the Estonian 5 Kroon note has his picture on it and even a ship was named after him.....but no tulip. We need some enterprising gardener to clone (or what ever it is they do) a Tal Tulip. It's bright red and attacks all the other tulips. |

Jan-06-15 | | Abdel Irada: <We need some enterprising gardener to clone (or what ever it is they do) a Tal Tulip. It's bright red and attacks all the other tulips.> On the other hand, it attacks so brilliantly that it is remembered long after most of the other tulips have faded into forgetfulness. ∞ |

 | | Sally Simpson: Hi Abdel Irada,
We have a new game. Chess Player Tulips.
The Fischer Tulip.
It will not blossom unless the sunlight is just perfect. The Petrosian Tulip.
It looks like an ordinary Tulip until you try to pick it. Then is produces thorns and draws blood. The Alekhine Tulip. Needs a lot of liquid and avoids other tulips. More.....? |

|
Jan-07-15 | | Abdel Irada: Oh, great. Now we all have to tiptoe through the tulips (for fear of distracting or annoying one of them and getting attacked in various ways). ∞ |

Jan-09-15 | | mbvklc: Oh my god, the pun really is amazing. The game - not so much. |
