Apr-29-04  tayer: The black position after 28. ... gxf5 29. g6 looks hopeless. Nice game by Morozevich.
Apr-29-04  Bears092: In hindsight, Rac8 would have been better than Rfc8
May-01-04  jaime gallegos: King´s gambit accepted! at the end of XX century !
Jun-02-04  Whitehat1963: Nice ending combination. But can someone tell me if 1. e4, e5 2. f4, exf4 3. Nf3 has been completely refuted? Is 3. Bc4 considered the better move now? Or is this just another way to play it, leading to other lines?
Jun-02-04  Everett: Wow, even Kasparov doesn't do that to Anand. Was this classical time controls?
Jun-04-04  MalibogKantutero: <Everett> Yes, this game is classical time control. Kasparov dished out & taught Anand a lesson with the Evans Gambit, but not the King's Gambit. Perhaps the mighty Kasparov is too scared to play the King's Gambit (Come on, Kaspy. Play the KG! bohk-bohk-bohk (just like a chicken, hahaha!) :)
Jun-05-04  MalibogKantutero: In chess modern times, Alexei Fedorov plays a lot of King's Gambit. One can easily tell that this chess player is hyper-aggressive through his opening repertoire. Check out his profile on this site :)
Jun-08-04  Tigran Petrosian: Great stuff!
Jul-31-04  Canto: wow , that was the most entertaining game I have played through in a long while ... a fan is born!!
Jul-31-04  Keshishian: Does 28. Rxg6+ produce anything?

Chessical: <Keshishian> Morozevich's <28.Rxf5!!> is extremely effective, after 28...gxf5 29.g6 the discovered check is an immediate winner.

<28.Rxg6+> allows Black to defend for a lot longer after: 28... Nhg7 29.Rxf5 Qxd5 30.Rxd5 Rc7.

Aug-29-04  ruylopez900: Excellent game by Moro, it's being covered by Monokroussos over at chessbase right now...

Joshka: It is a very exciting game....doesn't 22...Nd5 hold...instead of what Anand played ....Nh5?...i dunno....

Joshka: And 20...dc4 is awful ??no?...he blocks the c file where he could have a Queen and a rook behind the knight??...oh well...I would have probably missed this in a regular game...but someone of Anand's strength hard to believe.
Aug-30-04  ruylopez900: <Joshka> 20.Nxc4 Bxc4 21.dxc4 Qxe4 and Moro is up a piece for a pawn. Taking with the pawn doesn't allow White to recapture on c4 with either the Bishop or the Knight.
Aug-30-04  RisingChamp: I wonder why the Kings Gambit isnt played more often by players who need a win with white-especially in knockouts.Though I have to admit that this win wasnt a direct result of the opening.

acirce: Because it is a dubious opening that makes it too easy for Black to equalize.
Aug-30-04  ruylopez900: <RisingChamp><acirce> I wouldn't go as far as to call it dubious, but it gets an even game for both players while giving White an attack for a pawn. Sometimes people misplay it, but I think top GMs would rather have an equal game with even material then to be down a pawn and have pressure on them to convert the initiative and advantage into a win.

Aug-30-04  siggemannen: lol <acirce> that was the most stupid thing I even heard, it's not dubious and you probably haven't played it enough

acirce: I haven't played it at all, what does that have to do with anything?
Aug-30-04  siggemannen: how do you know it's dubious and it's easy for black to equalize? Try to play against it as Black, and I'll see how "easy" it's to equalize

acirce: I don't play it as Black either, usually meet 1.e4 with ..c5. Why would the results of a 2000-level player against a certain opening say anything about that in any case? That is a really weird line of argument, pretty much any opening works on amateur levels.
Aug-30-04  siggemannen: well if it worked against Anand it should work pretty much against everybody
Aug-30-04  Swindler: The reason why the KG isn't used that often is that it's shows Whites intensions to early, already in the second move. It's a "burning your boats" - kind of opening. That's what I've heard anyway, I have only used the KG at club level (with some success...).
