| Mar-09-09 | | WhiteRook48: <1. h4> I thought they were only forced to play the first 4 moves |
| Mar-14-09 | | 1. h4: Sorry, yeah, first 4 moves. |
| May-24-09 | | steve123456: Instead of 20...Na6, I think Kieseritsky should play 20....Ba6(White couldn't force checkmate with an open square) |
| May-31-09 | | steve123456: But then Anderssen could move 21.Nc7+...Kd8 22.Qxa8, and Anderssen would surely win with such a positional advantage. |

| Jun-24-09 | | kooley782: Hello, everyone. I'm kooley782. I just activated my account, so I will begin kibitzing. My favorite player is Anderssen, so why not kibitz on the Immortal Game? :) You can see some of my internet games on http://chessinstruction.wordpress.c.... My coach is the one annotating the games. I'm about 1500-1600 rating-wise, but I'm looking to change that REAL soon. :) Well, see everyone around the site! Regards,
Kooley |

| Jul-06-09 | | pier daniele: I'm a beginner, so I apologize in advance if my question would be silly. Why 20.Kg2 is a such terrible move? I did that in "Guess the move" and I got -3 points!! But I can't understand my error ... |
| Aug-20-09 | | tommy boy: <pier daniele> because there would be a Q+K pin position if Black plays Bb2. |

 | | GrahamClayton: The position after Black's 20th move was featured on a postage stamp released by the South American country of Surinam: http://www.tri.org.au/chess/Surinam... |

| Oct-01-09 | | sfm: <pier daniele: I'm a beginner, so I apologize in advance if my question would be silly. Why 20.Kg2 is a such terrible move?>
It is not that terrible! I think that most master players, in a blitz game, including myself, intuitively would have played 20.Kg2.
But it is a big mistake. After that move, if Black play 20.-,Na6 it makes no difference. But Black plays 20.-,Bb7, our nice combination is gone and it looks like Black wins. |
| Oct-20-09 | | Qb6: Why didn't Black play 20. ... Ba6, creating flights for his king? |
| Dec-21-09 | | reanald: 18...Qa1+ 19.Ke2 Qb2! and instead of (20.Kd2! Bxg1! 21.e5 Ba6*,) white could play 20.Rc1 Ba6 21.e5 Nc6 22.Nxg7+ Kd8 23.Qxf7 Nd4+ 24.Kd1 |

| Dec-21-09 | | zanshin: One of my favorite games as a child, now subject to the ruthless analysis of Rybka 3 ;-) I compare Rybka's suggestion versus the move actually played. Critical points in the game, White move 17. The move played is deemed so inferior that analysis is halted after only 9 plies. click for larger view [+3.57] d=15 17.d4 Ne7 18.dxc5 O–O 19.Bd6 Nxf5 20.Qxf5 Bb7 21.Qxf6 gxf6 22.g5 Rc8 23.gxf6 Kh8 24.Rg7 Na6 25.Rxf7 b4 (0:08.48) 52122kN [+0.36] d=9 17.Nd5 Qxb2 18.Nc7 Kd8 19.Re1 Bb7 20.Nxa8 Na6 21.d4 Be7 22.a4 (0:00.06) 665kN |

 | | nimh: There's fourth controversy on the 18th move as well. The move played was by no means good. |
| Mar-12-10 | | rapidcitychess: Anderrsen is lucky his opponents are terrible chess players. But as in the words of Kasparov " It takes two to play a beautiful game" Qb2 to quote Dan Heisman "is just a spoilsport"
As well to ask:In the Immortal game Black captures the queen's rook before the kings rook. |
| May-09-10 | | WhiteRook48: i think after 20...Ba6 21 Nc7+ Kd8 22 Qxa8!! both tactical and positional advantage

| May-15-10 | | SirChrislov: Anderssen is an animal! This game is barbaric caveman stuff! --R.Keene on the Immortal Game(Duels of the Mind). |
| May-16-10 | | WhiteRook48: 18...f6 19 Nxg7+ Kf7 20 Bxc5 Qxa1+ 21 Ke2 Qe5 allows black to get back in the game |

 | | sevenseaman: Hmm, deja vu perhaps but I cannot recall the precedence. No chess game can be played in this manner until the attacker sees the whole thing from the beginning to the end. He has to be sure the responses will be near auto or forced. This is as close to brinkmanship as it gets; the ecstatic uplift has to be incomparable. |
| Aug-19-10 | | Lil Swine: he sacrificed a queen, 2 rooks and a bishop and lived, i guess thats why its called the immortal game |
| Oct-21-10 | | Tigranny: Kieseritsky loved his queen too much. That was why he lost. |
| Nov-05-10 | | WhiteRook48: yes, I also calculated 18...Qxa1+ 19 Ke2 Qb2 as having the best surviving chances for that. Variation without chess engine:
18...Qxa1+ 19 Ke2 Qb2 20 Bxc5 Qxc2+ 21 Kf1 Qc1+
