kevin86: After 14Qf2 Qxe4+ and white's position is smashed to bits! Surprizing, white has no better move!
Sep-09-04  sneaky pete: It was Eichborn's turn to win, so Anderssen pretended to miss 5.Qh5+ .. etc. According to Gottschall's book (used as source by the Oxford Encyclopedia) white still played the tricky 14.cxb6 .. before resigning. The Pickard edition adds 14... axb6, sensible enough. Walking into the trap however wins faster: 14... Bxe2 15.b7 Qxe4 16.bxa8Q Bxf3+ and mates. Or 16.Ba5+ Ke8 17.bxa8Q Bd3+ and mates.
May-02-05  aw1988: <It was Eichborn's turn to win, so Anderssen pretended to miss 5.Qh5+ .. etc.> What?!
May-02-05  azaris: More likely the game went

1. e4 e5 2. f4 exf4 3. Bc4 f5 4. Qe2 Nf6 5. Nc3 fxe4 6. Nxe4 Nxe4

and the score was later incorrectly transposed.

  wwall: Perhaps 11.Bd3 is better.

13.Nf3 is bad. Best may be 13.Bd3

If 14.Bd3, simply 14...Bxd3 wins.

Dec-02-07  dycotiles: What's wrong with 3 ... Qh4+ ?
Dec-02-07  mrbiggs: <dycotiles> 4. Kf1 brings you to a standard Bishop's Gambit of the King's Gambit Accepted. Basically, white loses the ability to castle but gets some more time to develop against black.
