Jun-08-18  jeff6789: 26. ...Rb8 is much better than the move played. It threatens to win the B by 27. ...Rc5 so white has to play 26.c3 which both loses a P and gets a bad position. OK so I found this using a computer to analyse while reading Michael Stean's book Simple Chess. That book is really good.

yiotta: I agree, Simple Chess is an excellent book. If you ever wondered why it can take White 12 moves to develop 4 pieces in the Ruy Lopez, Stean will explain. While his book isn't about the Ruy specifically, the Ruy provides a good forum for his discussion of space and the capacity of pawn structures.
Aug-19-18  nummerzwei: In his book 'Simple Chess', Michael Stean recommends 31...Nxf4 32.Nxf4 Rc1+ 33.Kh2 Be5 34.Bd2 Rd1? as an easier win:

Here 35.g3 hxg3+ 36.Kg2 refutes.

Black should play 34...Rf1, but this is not necessarily better than the sequence in the game.
