Jul-05-11  kostich in time: This is the best game froma short match in which Kavalek crushed Anderrson. From what I remember, the two grandmasters played in a store window, and Diesen( whatever happened to him?) commented on the games.

  FSR: Mark Diesen won the World Junior Championship in 1976, stopped playing three years later, never became a GM, and died less than three years ago at the age of 51. Very sad. I once "talked" to him on FICS and joked that I'd long thought that "Mark is a Diesen player." He was such a nice guy that he professed to find that funny. He offered to play me blitz, but I was too much of a wimp to agree. (Oh no, if I play blitz against an IM he'll probably crush me!)

I actually have a letter from Kavalek that he sent me shortly after winning his match against Andersson. He was responded to a letter I'd written to him about something he'd written.
