Kibitzer's Corner
Feb-16-05  Poisonpawns: Great ending by Andersson, perfection 55..h3! is just icing on the cake letting white know he is aware of the drawing possibilty when the King is on h1 with the wrong colored bishop.
Feb-16-05  beatgiant: I think the purpose of 55...h3! is to gain time by deflecting White's king.

After 55...Bxb4? 56. Bxh4 Bc5 57. Be1 Bd4 58. Kf3 Bc3 59. Bh4, White's king catches the pawn after 59...b4 60. Ke2! b3 61. Kd1 b2 62. Kc2. If instead 59...Kd3 60. Be7 and Black can't chase White's bishop away from covering b4 without letting White's king get in front of the pawn.

Very instructive!

Feb-16-05  aw1988: <beatgiant: I think the purpose of 55...h3! is to gain time by deflecting White's king.> That's exactly the point: Andersson wants to get the king "out of the square" (if I may use such a term for a bishop ending).
Oct-16-05  Mateo: 20. Na4 ?! was a turning point. Until this move, Geller had a small advantage, but this move leads to complications in black's favour.
Oct-16-05  Mateo: 27. Rd4? loses a pawn. Better 27. Nf5 Bf5 28. ef .
