notyetagm: Stangl plays the wicked 11 Qxc3!.

Now White threatens both 12 QxQ and 12 pxB.

If Black tries to extricate himself from this <double attack> with 11 ... Qxc3, then White does not meekly play 12 bxc3. Instead White plays the unbelievable in-between move (<zwischenzug>) 12 fxg7!!.

Now the twin threats of 13 pxQ and 13 pxR=Q+ cost Black a whole queen, leaving White a piece ahead.

<A great combination by Stangl, based on the threat of promotion of an advanced pawn (e5-pawn).> White gives up his queen for a bishop but then threatens to promote his e-pawn, getting his queen back and leaving him a whole bishop ahead.

notyetagm: Black resigns due to the forced mate 18 Qc7+ Ke8 19 Qxc8+! Rxc8 20 Rxc8#, a <backrank mate> with the Black king stuck in the middle of the board.
Jul-31-09   WhiteRook48: 11...Qxc3 would be crazy although black does't have much to do anyway
