Kibitzer's Corner
Dec-14-07  fromoort: Did Zhelnin run out time?
Premium Chessgames Member
Domdaniel: < Did Zhelnin run out time?> Very unlikely on move 44. He simply has a lost ending, already a pawn down with more ready to drop. His counterplay is minimal, and White's Rooks are better placed.

Black's best try is 44...Rxc4, but after 45.Rxa5 he's in serious trouble. White picks off pawns and even has mate threats.

I imagine he simply threw in the towel. Svart gev upp, as they say in cosmopolitan downtown Gorky.

Nov-10-15  KPMITfan: Move 36-
White should have played

Qb6(giving way to Ne6 fork), so Ra8 is forced. After that, Ne6+ Kg8 Nc7. White would have got a Rook in exchange for a Night.
