 | | patzer2: As Black's active Knights begin to overwhelm White in a closed position, he blunders with 40. Nf5??, allowing Black the decisive deflection move 40...h3+! (Note that if 41. Kg1, then 41...h2+ 42. Kg2 Qxf3+ 43.
Kxf3 h1=Q+ wins even quicker than the game continuation.). Relatively better was 40. Qf5!? Qxf5 41. Nxf5 Nhf4+ 42. Kf1 h3 43. Kg1 Nd3 44. Be3 Nxb2 45. Kh2 Nc4 46. Bc1 b5 47. Kxh3 Kg8 when White has some chances of pulling off the draw. |

| Jun-07-05 | | aw1988: Good Morning.
Good morning, Sir. Welcome to the National Cheese Emporium!
Ah, thank you, my good man.
What can I do for you, Sir?
Well, I was, uh, sitting in the public library on Thurmon Street just now, skimming through "Rogue Herrys" by Hugh Walpole, and I suddenly came over all peckish.
Peckish, sir?
Esuriant.
Eh?
'Ee, Ah wor 'ungry-loike!
Ah, hungry!
In a nutshell. And I thought to myself, "a little fermented curd will do the trick," so, I curtailed my Walpoling activites, sallied forth, and infiltrated your place of purveyance to negotiate the vending of some cheesy comestibles!
Come again?
I want to buy some cheese.
Oh, I thought you were complaining about the bazouki player!
Oh, heaven forbid: I am one who delights in all manifestations of the Terpsichorean muse!
Sorry?
'Ooo, Ah lahk a nice tuune, 'yer forced too!
So he can go on playing, can he?
Most certainly! Now then, some cheese please, my good man.
Certainly, sir. What would you like?
|
 |
| Jun-07-05 | | aw1988: Well, eh, how about a little red Leicester.
I'm, a-fraid we're fresh out of red Leicester, sir.
Oh, never mind, how are you on Tilsit?
I'm afraid we never have that at the end of the week, sir, we get it fresh on Monday.
Tish tish. No matter. Well, stout yeoman, four ounces of Caerphilly, if you please.
Ah! It's beeeen on order, sir, for two weeks. Was expecting it this morning.
'T's Not my lucky day, is it? Aah, Bel Paese?
Sorry, sir.
Red Windsor?
Normally, sir, yes. Today the van broke down.
Ah. Stilton?
Sorry.

No.
Any Norweigan Jarlsburg, per chance.

Ah! We have Camenbert, yessir.
*suprised* You do! Excellent.
Yessir. It's..ah,.....it's a bit runny...
Oh, I like it runny.
Well,.. It's very runny, actually, sir.
No matter. Fetch hither the fromage de la Belle France! Mmmwah!
I...think it's a bit runnier than you'll like it, sir.
I don't care how bloody runny it is. Hand it over with all speed.
Oooooohhhhh...!
What now?
The cat's eaten it.
*pause* Has he.
She, sir. |
 |

Fair enough.

| Jun-07-05 | | aw1988: Aah, how about Cheddar?
Well, we don't get much call for it around here, sir.
Not much Ch- it's the single most popular cheese in the world!
Not 'round here, sir.
And what IS the most popular cheese 'round hyah?
'Illchester, sir.
IS it.
Oh, yes, it's staggeringly popular in this manusquire.
Is it.
It's our number one best seller, sir!
I see. Uuh...'Illchester, eh?
Right, sir.
All right. Okay. Have you got any? *obviously expecting 'no'*
I'll have a look, sir... nnnnnnnnnnno.
It's not much of a cheese shop, is it?
Finest in the district!
*annoyed* Explain the logic underlying that conclusion, please.
Well, it's so clean, sir!
It's certainly uncontaminated by cheese....
*brightly* You haven't asked me about Limburger, sir.
Would it be worth it?
Could be...
Have you --SHUT THAT BLOODY BAZOUKI OFF!
Told you sir...
*slowly* Have you got any Limburger?
No.
Figures.
Predictable, really I suppose. It was an act of purest optimism to have posed the question in the first place. Tell me:
Yessir.
Have you in fact got any cheese here at all.
Yes, sir.
Really?
No. Not really, sir.
You haven't.
Nosir. Not a scrap. I was deliberately wasting your time, sir.
Well I'm sorry, but I'm going to have to shoot you.
Righto, sir.
*customer shoots the owner*
What a *senseless* waste of human life. |

 | | Shams: <aw1988> did you transcribe that yourself? my brother and I must have listened to that on cassette a hundred times, but there are a good dozen words we were clueless on. Thanks for the blast from the past. |
 |
| Jun-07-05 | | aw1988: Much as I adore anything python related, many things from the Flying Circus I do not have memorized. This one, however, I took exceptional liking to. :) |

| Mar-19-06 | | shor: what is purpose of 40...h3 ?
i just don't see it,
if the white king took the pawn, what will be the continuation? |
 |
| Dec-21-08 | | Oginschile: If the white King takes 41 Kxh3 Qxf3+ and white's position is hopeless. 42. Ng3 and 42. Bg3 both lead to 42... Nhf4 followed by Qg2# |

 | | An Englishman: Good Evening: Is this the first two-time Game of the Day? Since everyone else will contribute their favorite Monty Python sketch, I'll dare to comment on the game, particularly Bagirov's 4th move. Even though he takes care to guard his position, and even though the Knight of Nei castled on the same side, Black still summnoned forth the same sort of devastating attack we see in all of the 19th Century games where White plays 4.0-0. I can't help but think that this move must rate at least a "?". |
 |
| Dec-21-08 | | patzer of patzers: Other games have been twice GOTD, but as far as I know they all've been glitches and promptly corrected by CG... |

| Dec-21-08 | | WhiteRook48: Excellent "Nei" ghing. |
 |
| Dec-21-08 | | thebribri8: No. I am pretty sure there have been Game of the Days more than one time, and they weren't mistakes. ARE YOU BEING INDECISIVE?
Yes, no! Perhaps!!! |
 |
| Dec-21-08 | | Antonius Blok: My interrogation is on the 18 move of the white:
Was 18.Qc1 a good move or a right move (means not bad)? Does it have any better move than 18.Qc1? Thanks if someone cas answer me! |

 |
| Dec-21-08 | | soberknight: Not the best move in the game, but the coolest, is 42...Nh8. It's always fun to play your knight into the corner for a good reason. |
 |
| Dec-21-08 | | zzzzzzzzzzzz: nice name |
 |
| Dec-23-08 | | Andrijadj: pun is much better than game... |
