Apr-18-19  bamaexpert: Are we posting crappy games now just to have corny names for the games? Shucks, maybe not a kernel of reason there. I need to enjoy my cob pipe and pop some answers to other stalkers.

fredthebear: <bamaexpert> Blatny and Strangl are both GMs, although not quite yet at the time this game was played. Perhaps your definition of "crappy" refers to games devoid of combinations. This game seems fairly logical to me; a bit dry despite the sneaky knights about, but unburdened by awful blunders.

Personally, FTB generally enjoys games where White castles queenside and storms the kingside. This game is a fair example of a mere two-piece wing attack not being forceful enough to bust through in dominant fashion.

To your point, chessgames.com does get carried away with word games at times, but playfulness is a generally a good thing. We're all here for a good time! (Traps, tactics, combinations, and king hunts do tend to add to the drama.) The site must be more careful not to insult the actual players, crossing the lines of good taste. Our surnames are our heritage; mocking is not appreciated. But what would an illiterate bear care anyway?

BTW, the Mueller Report is on-line if you prefer. A huge two year waste of time and tax payer money. (Unfortunately, Americans cannot trust our misleading national media to do proper investigations anymore; the media is just a lazy spin factory of opinion to look attractive and fill air time, not in-depth factual reporting for the most part.) The whole Mueller investigation (conducted by top-notch lawyers with Democrat ties) was a political hoax cooked up on behalf of the Hillary Clinton presidential campaign, which was not properly investigated! Take FTB's word for it, a certain few members of the FBI and Justice Department committed felonies against the Trump campaign and will go to federal prison in due time.

Where in the U.S. Constitution does it say you are obliged to help an adversarial lawyer help investigate you?

How's that for changing the subject?

fredthebear: Of course, the United States government routinely observes, spies on and meddles in foreign elections in one fashion or another. It should be no surprise that Chinese, Russians, Turks, etc. etc. do the same to us. Our CIA works furiously to get insider information on foreign countries, but we're the good guys so we're entitled, right?

No, we don't? What's going in Venezuela right now? We're involved. So are the Russians.

Now that is off my chest, FTB is turning his attention back to MLB baseball...and chess.

fredthebear: Oh yes, the NBA playoffs are in full swing. It's no surprise the Lakers are out of it again. King James is a team killer if ever there was one. How many coaches has he fired anyway?

Stick with the Braves! It's a long season.

<FTB>, While I enjoyed your foray into politics in previous posts on this thread, I think your assesment of LeBron James is a bit harsh.

Team Killer? If he had zero rings I'd say sure. But he beat GSW in the finals after they had the greatest regular season in NBA history. I think that deserves some credit.

That said, I wouldn't want him on my team. For his style of play, he is too old. A Larry Bird or Kareem Abdul Jabbar can play the kind of game they play/played at the age of 34, and compete for championships.

But LeBron's game is explosive to the basket. If you are building a team to win, do you want to build around a 34 year old whose entire existence is focused on power basketball? Not in the NBA! Not in a league with an 82-game regular season and 2-month playoff schedule.

But then again, LA didn't bring him in to win a championship. They brought him in to sell tickets.

Apr-29-19  bamaexpert: Hey, the Hawks were pretty good three or four years ago. Not an avid basketball fan, I don't know what happened, but payroll and management must have had something to do with it. As far as the Mueller report, like the NBA I'm not big into politics. All I know for sure is we have a president with the vocabulary of a 12 year old, and a first lady who can barely speak English. Now there is a combination Magnus Carlsen would be jealous of. (I know, don't end a sentence with a preposition. But it's a fake preposition.)
