Instead, in the game line, after 23.Rf3 white maintains about a pawn advantage; it gives 23...Nf6 24.Raf1 Rae8 25.Qg2 Re7 (the point I guess of the previous move, the idea being that after d5 black can take with the knight because f7 is defended) 26.c4 and white has a very nice position after ...Kh8 27.Kh1 or ...Ne4 27.Rf4 and the attacking plan I wanted in the first place. |

It gives my above suggestion, 22.e5, an exclam, presumably missing the ...Rac8 line stockfish sees. And it misses the defensive/offensive 23.Rf3, which leaves white up over a pawn per SF. Incidentally, it says that 28...Nf3 drops all advantage after 29.Qg2 - winning was 28...Nxc4. |

Stockfish thinks black is winning (though not mating quickly) either way, preferring 29.Qe2. I can't follow your line at move 35. Anyway, I suspect much of the analysis in the book won't stand up to modern scrutiny. In this game it doesn't even recognize that white should have gotten a strong to winning attack out of the middlegame. |
