 | | parisattack: <kellmano: <MrPatzer: This is one of those games that make me feel like I don't get chess. Let's look at white's 18th move. I can see why Botvinnik felt he needed to deal with the A and B pawns; but my first thought in a position like this would be to get the bishop out of a8 while I still could, either by 18. Bg2 or maybe Bd5. Or is there something I'm not seeing? > We can start a club! I remember going over this game many years ago and thinking 'I just don't get it' - 40 years later, I still don't. Just a game which does not connect with me for whatever reason. |

 | | patzer2: <Patzer2> I didn't get 20...Bb7!, but Fritz 10 jumped all over this strong Queen sacrifice as a best move in a matter of seconds. Smyslov calculates that after Botvinnik's 21. Rb1, Black can gain a strong advantage after 21...Nf3+ in securing three minor pieces and a strong central passed pawn (the peasants I suppose) in exchange for the Queen. According to Fritz 10 and at least one GM who's analyzed this game, 20. Bxb7 Qxb7 (conceding the central passer without accepting the Queen sacrifice and with a small disadvantage) is preferable for White. I, for one, am glad Botvinnik bavely went in for this line, as we otherwise wouldn't have had this brillianct finish. |

 | | sevenseaman: Smyslov's 'Search of Harmony' is very visible in his ..22. Bxa8 leaving his Q for the chop. Totally consistent. He exacts ample compensation later. |

 | | sevenseaman: What is the exact implication of the title 'Peasant's Revolt'. The two were rivals, but I take it Botvinnik thought of Smyslov as subservient in some way and so the latter's resorting to a previously discussed artifice as a betrayal. |

 | | chessgames.com: The Peasants' Revolt (or the Great Rising of 1381) was one of a number of revolts in late medieval Europe and is a major event in the history of England. It was chosen as a title for this game simply because the pawns (the "peasants") played a primary role in the game. |
 |
| Nov-02-10 | | Everett: Did you even go through the game? There is limited pawn play in this game. The pieces defeating rook and queen is the main theme. "Peasants" are the pieces in this case. |

| Feb-20-11 | | AVRO38: <The Peasants' Revolt (or the Great Rising of 1381) was one of a number of revolts in late medieval Europe and is a major event in the history of England.> Nice try CG but the title of this game has the apostrophe before the "s" not after it, the implication therefore is that Smyslov is the peasant. The real peasant however got his butt kicked in this game and in the next WC match. |

| Sep-26-11 | | sicilianhugefun: This game stongly suggest that CHESS is truly for intellectual heavyweights. A beginner or even an afficionado of the game will find it extremely difficult to grasp the essential aspects of this particular duel. The sword-fighting here is juist impressive and at the same time instructive only to the initiated. |

| Apr-13-12 | | King Death: < sicilianhugefun: This game stongly suggest that CHESS is truly for intellectual heavyweights...> Do you think that these players were born 2700? They had to work just like weaker players to improve. Some of the comments that I see here are way beyond me. <...A beginner or even an afficionado of the game will find it extremely difficult to grasp the essential aspects of this particular duel. The sword-fighting here is juist impressive and at the same time instructive only to the initiated.> The way even strong players improve their skills is to analyze just such games, there's more to most of them than the 20 move crushes. |
