Jan-31-04   Dick Brain: That's interesting. At one time Jude Acers was willing to face players rated higher than class C!

Joshka: <Dick Brain> Been reading quite a lot about Acers as of late, he only plays patzers?...i believe this game with Browne won some kind of award? I know he does simuls and plays in New Orleans...but he's really not considered a good player?
Jul-14-04   deshad: If you're ever in New Orleans, go to the French Market Gazebo on Decatur and you'll often find Jude there with a couple boards. It's a blast to play him and hear his stories. I'd suggest even people who have no interest in chess play a game with him and meet him. One of the highlights of my recent trip there. He's much more interested in meeting people and having fun than having serious games. With that said, he did rip me apart on the board.

Joshka: <deshad> As a musician, NEW ORLEANS is a stop I've been wanting to make for many a year. Reading some stuff about Jude and of course I'd love to visit him down there. In fact he has a tour going this year, and I'd love to have him visit and give a simul here (northeast Ohio) but have never arranged anything like this, I've got the details from his manager and the cost ect. so...I'll see if and when i take on this interesting sort of project. How old is this guy? mid 40's?...50's?....it's these types of folks who have some "character" that could help popularize the game!, no?...I guess USCF in USA doesn't agree, but I for one cannot figure out why they don't use colorful and imaginative chess publicity folks to make the game more attractive here at least in the states....thanks again for your response!..:-)
Jul-14-04   deshad: <Joshka> My guess is that Jude is in his mid-to-late 50's. You're exactly right that he's the type of person that can really get people interested in the game. It's not terribly hard to find an IM or GM to do a simul, but it would be tough to find someone more interesting and fun.
Jul-15-04   sawbone: In about 1971, Jude played a simul at the Leesville, LA Chess Club and beat all 10 of us blindfolded. Everyone should read his new book, The Italian Game. I think that Jude can regulate his game to make it interesting and barely beat players of various levels. He is indeed a charming fellow and wears a red cap so you can see if he is there from 3 blocks away. He was once rated over 2500, according to his book. Has the best presentation of The Two Knights Game I have seen.
Jul-15-04   Lawrence: <sawbone>, warm welcome, I'm sure I'm not the only one here who hopes to see more postings from you as interesting as that one.
Aug-13-06   Grega: I know there are plenty of ways for white to equalise, but can someone show a strict 100% winning line after 51 Kd2 for Mr. Acers (BTW ; magnificent play in the middle game !)?

I will appreciate help.
