Kibitzer's Corner
Jun-14-04  azaris: Nice finish by removing the defender of d7.
Aug-22-07  tak gambit: What is the continuation here?
Aug-22-07  Griffard: @ tak gambit
no matter what black does they eventually lose queen, if ...gxf5 then Nd7+ wins the queen and leaves white a bishop up
Aug-23-07  tak gambit: Thanks I see now ,he gave up a knight and a queen for a queen and 2 minor pieces.
Nov-30-13  Alpinemaster: This game is simply a work of art. Burn and Mieses played many games at top-level tournaments - the majority of which were powerful Romantic tactical struggles, the likes of which reminiscent of the quickly dying era of the 18th and 19th centuries.
Nov-30-13  morfishine: Black sure made a Miese of this game

*****

Nov-30-13  paramount: huff... its been a couple of days or more since i saw a good and feasible GOTD.

Sorry for my impudence but i recommend this instead...and never tired :)

Lasker vs Ed Lasker, 1924

Nov-30-13  goodevans: <paramount: huff... its been a couple of days or more since i saw a good and feasible GOTD>

We've had a couple of poor GOTDs this week, but today's I quite enjoyed. Black's troubles can be traced back to <9...Nh5>, but even then he could have prevented such an early collapse by trading his LS♗ for one of White's ♘s at any of a few opportunities.

Nov-30-13  thegoodanarchist: Another good pun! We've had more than usual this month.

Good to know :)

Domdaniel: <This game is simply a work of art.> No, sorry. It's neither a good game nor a good pun. The game is a clumsy encounter between two players who were capable of much better. The pun, no comment.
Nov-30-13  TheTamale: <Domdaniel>, in my opinion the pun is silly and simple but quite effective. Cute, even! Although my tastes run to the simple and silly.

Domdaniel: <TheTamale> Mine too. But is this simple or silly enough?
Nov-30-13  Mendrys: <Domdaniel> I'm sure Mieses would agree with you regarding his play in this game. Being down a whole piece in only 17 moves can only be the result of poor play. I do, however, have a hard time finding fault with Burn's play. He played aggressively when warranted and unfortunately for himself, so did Mieses when he played 8...Bg4 instead of castling or playing 8...a6.

That being said it is still a matter of taste whether or not a quick execution merits being a GOTD. Myself, I prefer games such as this Bronstein vs Gligoric, 1967 .

Nov-30-13  solskytz: This knight should have been taken off the board immediately upon setting foot upon f5.

1700 blitz players do so routinely, leaving white with a rather pathetic non-sequitur pawn on f5.

Whatever follows from that point, black brought upon himself - just giving white chances for no upside at all.

offramp: Game of the Day again! Two days in a row! As Amos Burn would say today, "<White rabbits, white rabbits, white rabbits!>"

piltdown man: Game of the Day twice in a row? If old Amos was still alive, he'd be turning over in his grave.
Dec-01-13  Infohunter: Well, this is first time I have ever seen the same Game of the Day two days in a row. I wonder if <cg> will post an explanation.

It is because this is one of the greatest games of all time.

Phony Benoni: It''s happened before: Tal vs Aronin, 1962 was used on Feb-17-2010 and Feb-18-2010.

But there is a new GOTD up now!

Dec-02-13  kevin86: Brilliant!
