game adjourned at this point and GM Torre sealed 48...Qf1+, Karpov resigned without resumption.

Dec-17-11  palagalaako: Wow great game..this is the first time i heard about that richter-rauzer line, which might as well tag me as a beginner, but i find it interesting.. is it more worthwhile to study and use it than the najdorf?

Why not try both? If you're just starting out, play around with a lot of different ideas, analyze grandmaster games and have fun! We all started out as beginners somewhere along.

Dec-17-11  palagalaako: Yeah im just having a good time playing the najdorf now and is currently experimenting playing with a Qb6 in Black..but somehow White's Bb5 (an early one, say 3.Bb5 ...) or 5.Bg5 ... 6.g4 demolishes my Kingside faster before i could have a good Queenside buildup..any suggestions for a better defense until my Queenside units are ready?

Jun-19-12  offramp: This win by Torre is from right at the start of Karpov's tenure as World Champion. I believe Torre was also the last person to beat Karpov in a tournament while he was World Champion: E Torre vs Karpov, 1984

i agree!
Jun-19-12  weisyschwarz: Such ferocious persistence by Torre, who seemed to know the ins and outs of the opening, and the path of the middle game. Pun fits quite well.
Jun-19-12  Willber G: What does black do after 49.Nd1 ?

kevin86: Nice game for Torre! You mess with the bull and you get the horns!
Jun-19-12  PierreMontz: I agree with Travis, I guess what Bobby was really afraid of was his name, as Karpov himself said in the interview when he became World champion after the forfeit. Bobby could have beaten Karpov if not for his ego.
Jun-19-12  WhiteRook48: What happens if White plays 48 Qf3+?
Jun-20-12  bubuli55: 48...Kg5 runs out of check. the threat is Bxb2+
