Domdaniel: It certainly is. See the 23-move sequel - Hebden vs Nunn, 1998 - for some folk etymology.

Domdaniel: Before trying this at home, remember that this move order, with 3.Nc3, gives Black a chance to transpose into a Pirc.

This prospect is viewed with horror by certain GMs, who specialize in the King's Indian but will play ...d5 to avoid the Pirc. Nunn, in particular, has had bad experiences with ...d5: two losses to Baburin in the Neo-Grunfeld and two to Hebden in the Barry, all of them crushing.

At less elevated levels you'll tend to find yourself on the White side of a Pirc, against a perfectly happy opponent.

Mar-10-15  iamdeafzed: Threat in the end position is 39.Rh4#, and attempting to defend against it via 38...Be4 loses to 39.Qh4+ and 40.Rxe4.

25....d4 seems (to me) to be the stinky move after which black's game just went from bad to worse.
