sorokahdeen: A strange, edgy variation. The 9g4 idea seems like something that would be double-edged but all black seemed to get out of his two-piece attack was a big expenditure of time to gain bishop-vs-knight.

All of this at the cost of delaying his queenside counterplay and offering up his queen as a target that turned white's kingside initiative into a kingside attack.

Feb-28-15  Funology: The Opening designation is perverse...
Feb-28-15  Marmot PFL: The standard Benko queenside plan looks good for black here, especially with Ba6 traded and out of the way. Black doesn't need to fear trades in the Benko.

Feb-28-15  TheTamale: I wonder why this opening is classified as "Benko Gambit: Accepted. Yugoslav without 7...Bxf1" when Black's 7th move, in fact, is Bxf1...?

offramp: It is only an existential "Benko Gambit: Accepted. Yugoslav without 7...Bxf1".
Feb-28-15  kevin86: An example of a "good" Witt's end was a baseball game where Mike Witt pitched a perfect game on the final day of the season for the Angels...I believe it was in 1991.

perfidious: <kevin86> 'Twas a bit earlier: to Witt, in 1984.

Mar-01-15  Nova: A cute game. It seems surprising that White is able to get a kingside attack going so early, with the simple plan of h4-h5, double king and rook on the h-file, etc. Almost reminds me of that Anand-Carlsen WC game in 2013, when Carlsen survived the attack.

But I definitely got the vibe from going over this game that White was a stronger player (beyond just the result). Black's attempts at counterplay were just a bit short, and White almost effortlessly gets his attack rolling, despite Black doing some queen checks, and winning the b pawn. A fun game to look through, from White's perspective at least.

I must remember this at the end-of-year <best quotes> awards. It's brilliant!

My pgn4web viewer shows 7...Bf1, not 7...Bxf1, so it's good.
