Kibitzer's Corner
Jun-24-04   mack: Might 36. Bxe5 cxe5 37. Nxg6+ offer white more chances?

tpstar: <mack> On 36. Bxe5 instead of 36 ... dxe5 Black also has 36 ... Nxe5 defending g6 while threatening 37 ... Rc1 with instant counterplay. Notice also 34. Nxe6?! which fails to 34 ... fxe6 35. f7+ Nxf7 protecting the Rd8. A curious example where Black's King hides safely behind White's far advanced Pawns, leaving White no entry point, plus allowing Black to mount a counterattack on the Queenside. BTW, I think the game turned after 14. Nd2!? instead of 14. Nxa5 bxa5 15. b3 Bb7 16. Bd2 and if nothing else White has the superior endgame in hand.
Jun-26-04   mack: Thanks tpstar, I can see that now.
