  al wazir: I think white wins with 28. hxg6+ hxg6+ 29. Bh5. Now what? If 29...gxh5, then 30. Qg6+ Kf8 31. Nxd8 Qxd8 32. Qf6+, winning a ♖. If 29...Rxh5+, then 30. Nxh5 Qxg5 31. Rxg5 gxh5 32. Rxh5, and white is a piece up.
Feb-21-14  iking: putting Karpov on the rope .... good defensive stops
Feb-21-14  shivasuri4: <al wazir>, I think you miscounted. After your second line, material is nearly even, with White having a Bishop for the Black knight.

Troller: This was second game in the Junior Team cup. Jacobsen played Dutch with Black and Bird with White against Karpov, getting two very promising adjournments. The Soviet delegation leader (not Karpov himself! - Krogius maybe?) approached Jacobsen with the offer that if he would accept draw in this game, Karpov would resign the other. Jacobsen accepted, having considered his chances of analysing against those of the Soviet team that had Grandmaster support.

According to himself, Jacobsen at the time had no idea this was a good result, but at the next junior tournament all the Soviet players wanted their photograph taken with him.

Feb-21-14  morfishine: A nice snapshot of an early Karpov game
Feb-21-14  1LovU: Am I the only one who kept clicking one right arrow after move 40 ,thinking "what the hell wrong,m i hanged" and then i realized its draw at that point..
Feb-21-14  kevin86: Bo knows enough...to draw.
Feb-21-14  PJs Studio: Correct Morphshine: Karpov displaying his incredible defensive genius early on! So methodological.
