Mateo: Botvinnik said Karpov first played like Capablanca, then like Petrosian. In this game, it looks like a Petrosian win. Karpov just waited, letting his opponent destroy his own position (it was really weird to see Yepez put all his pawns on squares of the same colour than his Bishop). At one point (36.Kf2?!), he allowed Karpov to invade and then blundered (37.Qe1?).

euripides: Portisch tried 11.d5 to exploit Black's slight looseness against Karpov a couple of years later:

Where is my mind: The back rank 40...Rd1+ then 41...Rh1 or even Qh1

arsen387: no, blacks don't have additional tempo after Rd1+ to follow up with Rh1 or Qh1, coz whites too have threats like Rb7+ followed with Qxg7

euripides: <arsen> after 40.dxc5 Rd1+ 41.Kf2 Qh1 the queen still guards b7 and I don't see a good move for White. But White might have lost on time, of course.

arsen387: <euripides>, <Where is my mind> oh, right, sorry, b7 is covered by black Q, overlooked that completely :) thanks
