Feb-17-05  Albertan: If 16...Rxc4!? then 17.e5 b4 18.exf6 bxc3 19.Qe2 Rd4 20.fxe7 Qa5 21.exf8 (Q) Kf8 is unclear.
Feb-17-05  Albertan: Karpov believed the idea 23...Bf6!? was a better idea than 23...Bc3?!

If Sosonko had played 23...Bf6!? play might have continued: 24.Qe4 Bxc3 25.bxc3 Rg7 26.Rxg6 Rxg6 27.Qxg6+ Kf8 28.Qh6+ Kf7

Feb-17-05  Albertan: 26.Qe4! is a nice move threatening

27.Qa8+ Rc8 28.Qxc8#

Shreddre 8 suggests Sosonko should have tried 27...e6!? ie. 28.Qxe6 Rxd5 29.Qxd5 Qa3+ 30.Kd1 Qc5 31.Qa8+ Ke7.

Mar-26-14  Howard: This was a Game of the Month selection back in early 1980, in "Chess Life".
