Feb-09-04  Gunnar Abelido: a fine win by el torre!
Feb-10-04  drukenknight: 23...Nc4 would have helped, a lot.

Hey didnt Torre help Korchnoi during the Bagiuo match? Maybe they should have just had Torre play Karpov in this opening? Korchnoi vs Karpov in the Nimzo indian, white almost never got much play out of it.

Feb-10-04  drukenknight: what 14...Ng4?
Feb-10-04  uponthehill: Nice positional rook trapping.

24.Bxf6 is a good interjected move- instead of closing the rook immediately by Bf3, Torre weakens black king's shield before.

Oct-22-07  AngeLa: ..nice game.. GM Eu 'Genius' Torre... ^^v

Travis Bickle: Yeah here's another Gem by Krapov. He played Bobby's 2nd again from "92 when Bobby was a weak player according to Garry Weinstein. Fischer's lackie Torre who made coffee runs and brought Bobby his morning newspaper beat up this SUPER CHAMPION Krapov again! This game was played in 1984. Wasnt that the year Krapov and Kasparov played for the world Title? HAHAHAHA!!!
Oct-09-08  Jim Bartle: Travis, what's happened to you? You never wrote stuff like that before.

Come back to us. The Cubs still have next year.

Oct-09-08  shintaro go: <Travis Bickle> What a fantastic response to Drawnik... KRAPOV lol

Travis Bickle: Hey Jim Bartle I been busy with long nights of drivin the Taxi. I dont root for the Cubs unless Im on those dam Prozacs ; ) Your pal Travis
Oct-09-08  Jim Bartle: Come on (again), Travis. Karpov once lost to Christiansen in 12 moves.

He also won 160 tournaments and scored something like 47% vs. Kasparov in five full-length (one just a bit longer) WC matches.

I've never really liked the guy, but you have to give him his due. Sort of like, say, Andre Dawson or Carlos Zambrano.

Travis Bickle: Jim I agree Karpov is one of the great players of all time but... If they would have met Bobby's conditions in '75 Fischer would have beat Anatoli so bad it would have been worse than Buster Douglas vs Mike Tyson! And we all know what happened to Tyson after he got pounded into submission in Japan. Mike became a circus geek biting off the ears of Holyfield. Yeah if Fischer swept Karpov under the rug like the others before Karpov in '71 he would have been stripped of his GM Title and been ordered by Brezhnev to a life time of Yathzee. ; P
Oct-09-08  Jim Bartle: Hey, I love Yahtzee!

Good to have you back, Travis.

Dec-30-08  chess61: <Travis> Maybe it is a good idea to quote Kasparov on this issue: “I think that Fischer, after the Karpov-Spassky match, probably lost faith in his ability to beat Karpov. It doesn’t mean that Fischer was inferior to Karpov, but for Fischer, psychological confidence was everything. And looking at what Karpov did to Spassky in 1974, I think shocked Fischer, because he knew Spassky’s strengths and he could recognize that Spassky played in Leningrad better than Reykjavik, and he had no chance”.
Feb-13-09  ChessEscudero: I wonder if GM Anatoli Karpov didn't let his rook eaten by GM Eugene Torre's bishop (26.Bxd5), knowing that his knight wouldn't stand a chance against the latter's rook. The Russian world champion would have managed to get a drawish endgame.

What a play by Eugene Torre!

Feb-20-09  ChessEscudero: Be my second, Eugene. Hehe
Oct-02-09  Bong Laurel: Eugene the World Champion that never was... Great game again. Repeating over karpov (1976)
May-14-10  BillTaylor10: Travis: hes not Krapov. he's anatoli Karpov
Sep-07-11  serenpidity.ejd: Congrats to E.T kahit na nakatsamba lang!
Sep-16-11  serenpidity.ejd: My apology to E.T. You are a strong chess player! (How can I erase past kibitz?!):-/

  al wazir: 29...Ne5 was forced because after 29...Kf5 white wins with 30. g4+ Kxf4 31. Qf6+ Kg3 32. Re3+.

  Abdel Irada: I agree, <drukenknight>: 23. ...Ng6 looks like a lemon.

Of course, even after the stronger-looking 23. ...Nc4; 24. Bxc4, Black has to be careful. If he recaptures with the queen, White will penetrate with 25. Qe7 with dangerous threats that are not easy to meet.

With the pawn recapture, Black retains the queen on c8 for defense, although even there Qe7 looks annoying.
