Apr-10-06   Autoreparaturwerkbau: 33.Rxb6 was just a bit too optimistic of unknown Rao against Kasparov-at-his-best.

jperr75108: Its amazing that Kasparov was able to defeat an International Master in a simultaneous exhibition. Does anyone know how many players there were playing him?
Apr-10-06   Jim Bartle: Kasparov did a number of "clock simuls" against a limited number of players, say six. I think he played the Israeli Olympic team once, and a couple times against teams from other countries.

I watched one he played against Peru's six best (minus Granda), in 1993 or 1994. Two were IMs (Reyes, Oblitas) and one was a GM (Urday). Rules were classical time controls, and K could play at any board any time.

He won four and drew two, and, surprisingly. a few times he stood with his arms folded while all six players' clocks were ticking.

(Yes, ticking, it was twelve years ago.)

Apr-10-06   iamverywellatchess: It is very well that it was ticking instead of tickeling! Ha!
