Joshka: Was this a simul?.....why resign? I know it's against Gazza but why not play it out?
Feb-11-06  Bobsterman3000: This one's done.

Black has no tricks to play and no move after the coming 21.c4 and white is up by at least 1.90 in all variations, according to Fritz 8.

The b6 knight is clumsily placed and black will have to invest several tempo in rehabilitating his king towards the center after rook exchanges or pawn exchanges on the K side. Also, the white knight is within two moves of jumping to a supported outpost on e6.

Even your average patzer could cash this one in...

Feb-11-06  SnoopDogg: I think Kasparov did his trademark "taking off the watch" routine. If you've ever seen Kasparov live, almost always when he's certain he'll win he'll take off the watch and the commentators scream "He's taking off the watch!!"

This was apart of his chess 'psychology' so opponents know when to resign.

Feb-11-06  hitman84: <SnoopDogg>yup he is an expert when it comes to psychology.

i have tried that takin off the watch thing only to make blunders after that :-)

i also used to keep my N's facing left which did'nt work either.

so now i take off my watch before the game starts and my N's face to the right :-)

Feb-11-06  Bobsterman3000: In that case, I'm sure that Garry took off his watch after seeing 8...0-0
Aug-08-07  AAAAron: You are mistaken, Kasparov doesn't remove his watch, he removes his shoes, and places his left shoe on the table, and the commentators usually scream, "He's taking the shoes off!" Kasparov, having not changed his socks for several days overwhelms his opponent with the wreaking smell of his pugnant feet. The opponent, unable to breath or think, will either resign or pass out. Clever psychology from one of the greatest players of all time. He is known in Russian cirlces as, "зловонный нога".
Aug-08-07  fromoort: <SnoopDogg>Actually, his routine goes like this. He takes his watch off at the beginning of the game and places it by the board. If he puts it back on, then it's a sign that the opponent may as well resign.
Nov-20-07  AAAAron: Are you sure its not his shoes???
Mar-19-08  YoungEd: I like the Dutch Defense too, but there's no way I'd have the nerve to try it against Kasparov!
Mar-19-08  hellopolgar: <AAAAron> I am laughing so hard...good one
