ray keene: this was the game where gheorghiu tried to bribe me beforehand to throw the game to him-i refused and he chased me all over reykjavik explaining how badly he needed to win the tournament-sadly i was so upset when i did come to play that i didnt put up much resistance!
Feb-17-06  Zaius: How much did he propose to bribe you with?

ray keene: $100 us -it was worth more then what with inflation and so on--i complained to the tournament organisers but they did nothing-five years later gheorghiu tried the same trick against piasetsky at orense 1977-by then i was a gm and piasetsky came to me for help-we protested to the arbiter medina who gave gheorghiu a public warning before the game-to my pleasure gheorghiu lost!
Feb-17-06  pawn to QB4: Lower than a snake's belly. I will try to deny Gheorghiu his moment of glory by persuading myself RJF must have accepted!

ray keene: the tragedy of gheorghiu was that he cd be a brilliant player-his game against fischer havana 1966 was great-so long as you ignore the fact that bobby knoocked back gheorghius draw offer!
Feb-17-06  tiburon92: psychological warfare?
