InspiredByMorphy: 25. ... Re8! Nice move by black.
Jun-29-04   Brian Watson: feel like i'm missing something:

30..Re1 31.Rxe1 Qxe1+ 32.Kh2 Qe5+ 33.Kg1 Rc1+ 34.Kf2 Qe1+ 35.Kf3 Rc3+ 36.Kf4 Qe3# works, but why not 30..Kh7, threatening 31..Qxh3+ 32.gxh3 Rxh3#?

  tpstar: <Brian Watson> Dude, you're on the right track. After 30. Rxa7 the immediate 30 ... Qxh3+?? loses to 31. gxh3+ and the check takes priority over impending mate on h2 (31 ... Kh7 32. Rg2 is simplest). But after 30 ... Kh7?! 31. Qxc7 covers h2 just fine, so the game continuation was correct (31. Qxc7 Qxg2#).
Jun-30-04   Brian Watson: thanks. so in fact 30.Kh7 would be a blunder, since white will be better if black can't force mate.
