Phony Benoni: A really Wolford effort by White.
Apr-28-09  Suji: <SneechLatke>This kind of game is what all King's Gambit players deserve. Make 'em think twice before haughtily playing 2.f4?!, as though you are not worth their time.

With all due respect, I have to disagree. I am a King's Gambit player and I'll play it on everyone. I also respect my opponents, too. I will agree that 2. f4 isn't the best first move, though. I like playing it since most people haven't studied it, and you can get really decent positions playing it.

Apr-28-09  ToTheDeath: GOTD? Sorry- this game was not even worth my time.
Apr-28-09  gus inn: <Suji> Are right. It is what works that counts most. And if the KG works good for you .. then go on , IMO.

And as long as an opening is considered dubious, it is woth playing...;) Many strong players have been succesfully
in playing it during times.

Cheers & good luck ! - gus inn .

It's not that bad, when you follow it with 1. e4!

Brilliant! ROTFL!
Apr-28-09  sfm: <ToTheDeath: GOTD? Sorry- this game was not even worth my time.> I think it was a very interesting game in the sense that it was the weakest play ever shown as GOTD.
Apr-28-09  alfa.vimapa: what a waste of time!!!!
Apr-28-09  Eisenheim: a reminder that the kings gambit must be played with precision and can easily fold as create exciting lines. you can't play an attack position like this and start retreating things and let black dictate the tempo.
Apr-28-09  sshhhh: OK, so it's not the best game, but I'm interested, as someone who constantly loses to the KGA with black, as to where white's problems start. 6.Qe1 seems far too passive, but in the few games I've found, the position after 3...Qh4+ is already +0=5-3 for white. So is 3.Bc4 already a mistake, allowing the check, loss of initiative, etc.?
Apr-28-09  Superbull: Have chessgames run out of games or what?
Apr-28-09  miseiler: @ssshhh

Play 2..d5!

Apr-28-09  th3jamez: 3.Bc4 is not a mistake it is a standard line( advocated by thomas johannson in his book ' the fascinating kings gambit'), white will lose the right to castle in order for play against the misplaced queen. white just played this line badly, 5.Nf3 isnt considered best since white wants to keep his options open the, queen may be able to go to f3 at somepoint. but whites main mistake in this game was Qe1 the queen gets in the way and white instead could playa use ful developing move

Phony Benoni: If I were judging this as an entry in the Pun Contest, I'd give it lowest ratings for both quality of pun and quality of game. Something like "Roll Jordan, Roll" would have been better.

In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if this game is meant as an incentive for entries in the Pun Conest. Everybody is going to think they can do better.

Apr-28-09  kevin86: Evidently-PB is NOT a Bulls' fan. This is a quick in your-face smackdown. A slam dunk game!

playground player: Hey! Lay off the King's Gambit! Just because somebody butchers it doesn't make it a bad opening. Didn't Bronstein say, looking back on his career, that he wished he'd played it more often?

Of course, the opening is pretty easy for White to butcher. But if your name is Morphy or Spassky or Anderssen, there's little fear of that (well, maybe Adolf Anderssen did butcher just a few of them).

Apr-28-09  Chessmensch: Reminds me of the kind of games we played when I was a kid at summer camp.
Apr-28-09  MageOfMaple: Reminds me of the kind of games I still play on occasion ... Of course, I find chess a little more enjoyable with a couple beers :)
Apr-28-09  Duque Roquero: <Superbull: Have chessgames run out of games or what?> No, they've run out of puns.
Apr-28-09  Jim Bartle: Could have looked for a J Jordan loss and called it "Err Jordan." Or has that already been done?
Apr-28-09  Jim Bartle: Wolford got treated the same as Bryon Russell here.
Apr-28-09  chesthinker: 2.f4!!! is a clear refutation of 1...e5??! but white's innacurate play into the midgame causes his demise
Apr-28-09  Absentee: <Phony Benoni: If I were judging this as an entry in the Pun Contest, I'd give it lowest ratings for both quality of pun and quality of game. Something like "Roll Jordan, Roll" would have been better.>

Look on the bright side, it's still light years better than "Fruit Lupi".

Apr-28-09  WhiteRook48: this is what you get when you cross the Jordan
Apr-28-09  MageOfMaple: <chesthinker: 2.f4!!! is a clear refutation of 1...e5??! but white's innacurate play into the midgame causes his demise>

2.f4 is so strong a response that it makes 1...e5 questionable? (Not being sarcastic - I'm seriously asking...)
