30.b4!? Gutsy move! And it worked out!

Oct-19-15  zydeco: The Soviets, in preparing for this tournament, decided obviously that Stahlberg was vulnerable in the French Defense. This must have been based on their experience with Stahlberg at Zurich 1953, where he didn't do that badly in the French (+1-2=2), but it worked here: both Korchnoi and Nezhmetdinov beat him in the French.
Oct-19-15  Shams: <zydeco> It's also possible they had simply found nothing against Stahlberg's early Nb8-d7-f8-e6 maneuver in the QGD, which had brought him solid games in Zurich.
