Kibitzer's Corner
Feb-22-11  edbermac: Korchnoi's score for this tourney was 14 wins and this lone draw! This was played in round 13, so you can see how close VK came to a clean sweep.
Apr-14-12  mcgee: Here's Huebner missing the clean sweep at Oslo nine years later - although he never really looked like winning this game G Sigurjonsson vs Huebner, 1974
Apr-14-12  King Death: <mcgee> White had an annoying edge in that whole game and without throughly analyzing I suspect that he slipped up somewhere near the time control. Sigurjonsson was a strong player though he wasn't in the top rank of GMs or even the best player in his country.

26...Qxh3 27.Bg4 1-0.

If Lengyel had taken that h-pawn Korchnoi could have won this event Played 15 Won 15.

After 15 games the top six finished:

1. Korchnoi 14½
2. Lengyel 9
3. Honfi 9
4. Csom 8½
5. Haag 8½
6. Flesch 8

1965 was a good year for Korchnoi. He started it by winning the...

USSR Championship (1964/65)

...by 2 clear points.

And in the same year on board 3 help Russia win the European Team Championship winning the board 3 gold medal.

I've seen that above trick pulled off in a few games. Here:

Black played Qxh3 apparently not worried about Bg4 because the f6 Knight cover g4.

1....Qxh3 2.e5

The f6 Knight is lost, if it moves (which happened in the game.) 2...dxe5 3.dxe5 Nfd7 4.Bg4 won the Black Queen 1-0.
