Tabanus: Among the spectators was Boris Spassky, the former world champion, who is playing Lajos Portisch, of Hungary, in the other semi-final in Geneva. - The Times 28 July 1977 p. 5 (who got reports from the arbiter Harry Golombek).
Jun-15-14  Howard: Weren't those two Candidates matches played in cities on opposite sides of the same lake that bordered both Switzerland and Italy?

  perfidious: <Howard> Indeed they were.

I visited Geneva in October of that year with my team and it was a fun time--would have better still to witness a candidates match!

offramp: I remember setting fire to Korchnoi's Evian box and watching it burn from Spassky's hotel room in Geneva.

We wrote a song about it. <Choke On The Water>.
